It is very frustrating when you have to pay for a service and you are told that your doctor is not going to refer you for further studies to try and get a diagnosis. Instead, she is quick to prescribe drugs to mask symptoms and was clearly irritated when I didn't want to take a drug that had serious side effects, without trying to find out the cause of the illness. Drugs are fine, but finding out the cause of a serious illness, and the symptoms that go along with it, is just as important as treating the symptoms. Being told by your doctor that she will not refer me for a second opinion is not only unfair to the patient, it is wrong.
