Chewing also reduces teething pain. For this purpose you just need to purchase theethers, which can be different. Some of them are liquid-filled and sometimes frozen. These theethers act by numbing the gums and reducing the pain.
Another method is chewing freezing damp washcloths for babies. They should be stored in plastic bags in order to keep sanitary, regularly replaced every few days and washed each time before refreezing.
Another method, which is sometimes effective, is gum massage. It should be done with clean hands only. The top of the baby`s gums should be carefully rubbed with a finger along of their top. A tiny amount of pressure should be exerted on each of the teeth emerging or swollen gum. A bit of ice can be rubbed too, but in order to avoid the baby choke you must be sure to keep hold of it. A drink of cold water from a bottle may also reduce the teething pain. If the baby doesn’t like to take a bottle it can be replaced by sippy cup. For the breast fed children parents can use refrigerated breast milk instead.
Effective teething pain reducers are also topical analgesics like Orajel®. They are recommended to use before napping or night sleep. The momentary relief long enough topical analgesics provide is just the thing the child needs to fall asleep.
Sometimes, when a child is really uncomfortable and above mentioned methods don’t work you can use infant acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
If a child goes through the phase of teething with minimum discomfort he may just need to be cuddled, distracted or held.
