How to get ready for my child`s first visit to dentist?

Your child can be filled with apprehension and fear if his first dental experiences are bad. To start with dentistry well parents should make certain that they take him for a dental checkup long before he`s been faced with problems. It is important to develop his positive attitude towards the dentist. Here are simple steps that can help:
Mental preparation
For the child`s mental preparation the stage for the first visit should be set. The perfect option to do this is to read him an interesting book about a trip to a dentist, which you can easily purchase or take in your local library. The book should be colorful and bright.
Find pediatric dentist
If it is possible find pediatric dentist, as he knows how to work with children, how to get them prepared to the procedure. Together you can make the schedule of your visits to dental office in order to get the place familiar to our child. Usually at pediatric dental office children receive little toys after the dental procedure and they really like it.
Give the child a rest before dental visit
Make sure your child is not tired and hungry before taking him to the dentist. That will give him patience and courage with new experience.
Schedule teeth cleaning and check up
You can successfully start with well scheduled check up and session of teeth cleaning. It will help your child to get familiar with instruments and settings before he will need some uncomfortable procedure. Clean your child`s teeth twice a year. Good dental hygiene will help him to avoid less pleasant procedures, cavity fillings, for instance.
Give the child a sign he grows up
The dental appointment might be viewed as a sign of growing up, so tell your baby about it. They like to feel independent and becoming elder, so it will probably work. Tell him that dental visit is something grown ups do. If you fear of dental visits don’t let your child know about it.
